In order to save an ailing Holly, the Marshalls have to get their survival kit back from a Cro-Magnon who's threatened to wipe out the Sleestak race. Holly has come down with a fever. The best cure for her are antibiotics, some of which would be in their waterproof survival kit, which is currently located somewhere at the bottom of the lagoon now lorded over by Lulu. Jack believes they have to try and retrieve it for Holly's sake. While Will fights off Lulu, Jack is able to locate at the bottom of the lagoon their belongings, including the survival kit, which right now is their first priority, the other items which they will retrieve at a later date. Jack and Will return to the temple to find the Sleestak there, led by Enik, stealing their possessions. The Sleestak are also able to steal the survival kit. Enik states that he took this action for the good of everyone. What he divulges is that the Sleestak have a new God named Malak, who is flooding the Sleestak's underground cave with water from the lagoon, which he will stop in exchange for food - human type food.

After stepping into a pylon, Will becomes invisible, so he uses his new gift to rescue Enik from the Sleestak. While Will, Enik and Cha-Ka are out together, Will and Enik get into a philosophical discussion about Enik living solely by logic, whereas Will tries to teach him the concept of compassion - doing things for others which may not be in one's own best interest, which to Enik is not logical. After they part company, Will investigates a pylon which he has never seen before, but that turns him invisible, something he is unaware of until he is told by Uncle Jack and Holly. Meanwhile, Enik has been kidnapped by the Sleestak, their act part of their new plan to get rid of the Marshalls and take back control of the Land of the Lost. When the Marshalls find out what has happened to Enik, Will, believing he can help Enik in his invisible state, decides, out of compassion, to try and free Enik from his captivity. The continuing debate between logic and compassion factors into what happens in Will's attempt to help Enik.

When the Sleestak tamper with the sunlight, an eccentric British repairman arrives to fix the problem. While the Marshalls and Cha-Ka are lounging around outside one day, solar flares begin, which causes unbearable heat. What they are initially unaware of is that this was caused by the Sleestak by manipulating the pylon that controls the sun in an effort to kill everything on the surface, most specifically the Marshalls. While Jack has gone out to retrieve some water, he runs into another human being calling himself William Blandings, who by his dress and accent Jack assumes is British. Blandings states up front that he was waiting for Jack, that he is only in the Land of the Lost for six hours before he must leave, and that he is here to help. He also seems to have magical powers, including being largely unaffected by the heat. As the Marshalls don't fully trust him since they don't know who he is, he vows to them that he will not tell them any lies, but that he may only answer questions to as much as he is able to divulge. They end up trusting him, which includes trying to save him.

While Will, Holly and Cha-Ka are out fishing, Holly, in an outrigger, is swept away on a sudden current. Far downstream, she is saved by a beautiful young woman named Meddy, who is wearing Grecian garb. Rather than go back to the temple while it will soon be dark, Holly is convinced by Meddy to spend the night at her place, which has as its centerpiece a garden filled with stone statues of people, that garden which she calls the garden of eternity. What Holly is unaware of is that the woman is really a Medusa, whose grand plan is to use her as unwitting bait to bring Jack and Will to her, so that she can turn all three into stone to keep as statues in her garden. Meanwhile, Jack, Will and Cha-Ka all see evidence that Holly's situation was orchestrated by someone. When they discover that the creature is a Medusa, they have to figure out a way not only to save Holly and themselves from this situation, but to ensure that Medusa never can come after them again.

In the Lost City, Jack and Will come across a fire breathing dinosaur, who they nickname Torchy, that has driven Big Alice away. They know this is a problem as Big Alice will terrorize the jungle creatures instead. So they have to try and drive away Torchy. Getting a little too close to Torchy, Will is swatted in the leg by the spikes in its tail. Jack figures that the spikes must contain some sort of poison as Will's leg starts to swell. They learn from Enik that Will needs to be cured from the poison before nightfall or else fall and stay asleep until the end of time. Enik has the cure but will only give it to them if they can get rid of Torchy forever. The Marshalls are going to have to use their ingenuity to save Will... or so they believe.

They also learn that he is alone, despite they hearing what they thought were other human voices, that he is Dutch, and that he made his way here when he was swept along an uncharted current off the coast of Bermuda. The Marshalls believe they may all be able to sail out of the Land of the Lost the same way Van de Meer sailed in. Both Malak and Van de Meer may have other thoughts, the latter's based on what is supposed to be his fate and Holly's striking resemblance to his daughter back home.

A hot air balloonist crashes on the Land of the Lost and promises to bring the Marshalls back to civilization... though he only intends to return with their uncivilized friend Cha-Ka, and to the year 1920. What Cha-Ka believes is an animal crashing down from the sky Jack learns is actually a hot air balloon manned by American adventurist Colonel Roscoe T. Post, who was attempting what would have been the first successful hot air balloon crossing of the Andes... in 1920. Jack is able to convince him that in return for helping him fix his balloon that he take them with him back to Earth. Will is quietly nervous as he is uncertain as to their fate if they are transported back to 1920, an era when they would not yet have been born. That may be a moot point if the colonel has his way, as all he is really interested in is fame and fortune by his feats, despite being less than the brave adventurist he makes himself out to be. The fame in this case means exploiting Cha-Ka as a sideshow attraction as what he believes is the missing link. The colonel will sacrifice the Marshalls' wants for his own, which means leaving them behind and taking only Cha-Ka.

Catching up to Holly, Enik is unable to convince her not to go chasing after Corny after Corny goes missing, Enik not telling Holly the reason. So Holly and Cha-Ka go off in search of her new pet, unaware that a tapa probably took her. Upon learning what has happened from Enik, Jack and Will have to go off to save Holly, Cha-Ka and hopefully Corny from the tapa. They all realize the usefulness of the device to travel back to the time they arrived to make their way out of the Land of the Lost. Out one evening, Jack, Will and Holly stumble across an old wooden carving of a Sleestak with some detailed symbols on its chest. They decide to take it home with them to examine it further. They learn from Enik that the Sleestak believe the statue, which was carved and placed there by their long deceased ancestors, is an ancient guardian, protecting them from the "hairy monster", who they call the kona and which is akin to a yeti, from coming through the mountain pass from the high country into the low land where they live. Historically, the kona has pillaged the Sleestak of their eggs, threatening their species. Enik and the Sleestak do not know why the the statue has its effect on the kona. Regardless, the statue is placed back to its original location. However, the statue back in its place now does not stop the kona from descending from the high country. The Marshalls have to figure out if the Sleestaks' story is purely a myth, or what the magic is behind the statue.

When Jack and Holly eventually learn from Enik what Cha-Ka has been doing and in turn tell Enik about the beetle bite, Enik knows that the issue is that the beetle - a scarab - has brought out the evil in the creature that has been bitten, the only antidote being for the creature to atone for the cruelty shown to the scarab. There is no guarantee that Jack, Holly or Enik can make an evil Cha-Ka right his wrong, let alone do it in time to save Will.

A pot of water Holly has boiling over the fire mysteriously goes missing while she steps away for just a second. As the situation is too odd to ignore, Jack investigates. Jack finds that it was taken by an American Indian named Lone Wolf, who has somehow made it into the Land of the Lost from 1877. What's more, the Marshalls ultimately find that they are back in a battle of the wild west as a US cavalry member, Captain Elmo Diggs, has also made his way into the Land of the Lost in tracking Lone Wolf, who he wants to take into custody. Lone Wolf's need for the pot of water is indirectly related to the charges against him by Diggs. The Marshalls find that there are two sides to every story, the truth probably sitting somewhere in the middle of Lone Wolf and Captain Diggs' accounts. The Marshalls just hope that humanity and cooperation will prevail as both Lone Wolf and Captain Diggs need each other not only for survival if they remain in the Land of the Lost, but if they are going to make it back home.
