With the barometer showing story weather and a hurricane warning issued on the radio, Tony tries to alert his friends who have gone fishing or are on the other side of the island with Jason. Tony finds Jeremiah and despite his reassurances that there are no storms his time of year, Tony asks him to warn everyone in the valley so they can prepare for the storm. No one in the village believes Jeremiah's warnings about an imminent storm and he quickly finds himself locked up by the Prime Minister for daring to assume powers that belong to the Q. When the storm does come as predicted, Jeremiah is brought before the Q to explain how he knew the storm was coming. Not satisfied with his answer, The Prime Minister orders he be hanged. Helen pleads for Jeremiah's life but once at the gallows, Jeremiah admits to the Prime Minister and the assembled villagers that is was the Q himself who told him about the storm. Jeremiah's life is spared. Meanwhile, Anna and Mark survive the hurricane at sea on their raft while Su Ying and David find refuge in the caves with Jason.

In search of pitch to improve the raft, David and Mark return to the caves beneath the volcano. There they encounter Jason who tells them that the previous night the old hermit tried to kill him! Searching for his friends, Tony is cornered on a cliff top by three guards. To escape, he jumps into the ocean but injures his ankle in the fall. In the caves, Jason subdues the hermit who tells them his story: he was a prisoner on Malo with Jason's father, Adam, where the two devised a plan for one to escape and return to rescue the other. The hermit was the one to escape but fearing for his life having killed a guard during the escape, he never returned. Encouraged to learn his father may still be alive, Jason return with the others to the ship where he informs his mother they are making plans to go to Malo to rescue his father. Aaron's truancy has his schoolmaster, Mr Quilter, upset. He brings his concerns to Mrs Quinn but Aaron cannot be found Ñ he has stowed away on the raft taking the boys to Malo. Arriving at Malo, the boys make camp for the night. In the morning, Jason is gone... setting off by himself to search for his father. He soon returns but Mark has already gone in search of him. Jason returns with good news, he's seen a list of prisoner's names, a list that includes his father's. The boys set off to search for Mark.

The Prime Minister is in the middle of sentencing villagers, including one of his own guards, Thomas Quick, when news arrives that one of the five children has been captured. On Malo, Jason identifies his father among the prisoners who are forced to dive for the blue weeds that keep the Q immortal. While out hunting, Su Ying comes to the aid of a man drowning. He is Thomas Quick. The Prime Minister travels to Malo to question the prisoner... Mark. He promises to help the Prime Minister if he agrees not to kill his friends. Having observed his friend being questioned, David fashions a signalling mirror to warn Tony and Su Ying that Mark has been captured. When Mark is brought back to Tambu, Tony and Su Ying appear to have Mark rescued from the guards when, by Mark's own actions, his friends are taken prisoner as well. Marched off by the Prime Minister and his men, the kids are freed by Thomas Quick who quickly disappears back into the bush from where he came. Meanwhile, Jason locates his father and orchestrates his escape from the lagoon by faking his death and together with David, they return to Tambu.

The Treasure Map

Tony decides to take advantage of the Q's visit to Malo to raid his cave to retrieve the ship's sails. He and Anna discover the cave is filled with artifacts from the Q people's original ship (The David Scott - 1779), a chemistry lab and a locked trunk containing all their stolen belongings... and a map of Tambu showing the location of the gold doubloons! They are nearly caught when the Prime Minister and Quig return but Jeremiah, dressed as the Q, helps them escape detection. Tony tells Jeremiah about the treasure map they've found but Jeremiah explains to Tony that it is his well-being that is at risk should the Q discover anything missing. Tony settles on making a copy of the map for himself, narrowly missing replacing the original before the Q returns. Returning to the tree house, Tony is excited to tell the others about the map but is unable to do so before it is eaten by Greta the goat.

The Mysterious Stranger

Mark tells the others he is sure he heard a plane in the night and after finding wreckage on the beach, he is convinced a plane crashed off the island. In the village, Aaron also saw something and tells his mother he saw a bird "as big as a house" fall from the sky. Mark, David and Su Ying travel to far side of the volcano to visit Jason and his father, passing, unbeknownst to them, right under the injured pilot who is hanging in a tree by his parachute. Having skipped school again, Aaron finds the injured pilot who is brought to a cave by Helen and Aaron who care for him, bringing David and Su Ying back to help. When the kids explain to the pilot who they are, he reveals he was one of the searchers but the kids have all been given up for dead. After listening to Mark, David and Su Ying tell stories of the outside world, Adam Quinn wants his children to have nothing to do with the "false notions" the outsides are filling his childrens' heads with and forbids them from seeing his children again. Jason returns home to warn his mother about his father's proclamation and she promises to have a word with him but Adam stubbornly persists that the others be avoided, going so far as to report them to the Prime Minister. To give his father proof of what the others are saying, Jason takes him to the cave to see the injured pilot. Adam spends some time with the pilot before he dies, and emerges from the cave to admit he was wrong and has developed a new hope and a friendship with the children.

Skullduggery

Following the Prime Minister's men, Tony and David discover a hidden storage cave containing their ship's sails... and gunpowder, perfect for blasting a gap in the reef that is keeping them from sailing out of the lagoon. Mark and Tony return to the cave for some gunpowder but are trapped inside when Quig and Quell return with their men. The boys escape detection but Tony's map is found, revealing the location of their camp. While Mark returns to warn the others, Tony goes to the Q village to enlist the help of the Quinns. Having amazed the Quinns with his walkie-talkie, and creating a suitable diversion, Jeremiah sneaks into the jail to reclaim the map only to be stopped by the Prime Minister's arrival. Perplexed by the map, the Prime Minister decides they'll find the children by searching the swamp, a region that has always been taboo for the villagers. Knowing Quig and Quell will be coming, Tony and Mark devise a plan... Using the walkie-talkies, they are able to scare the guards off keeping the tree house and ship safe.

The Great Escape

David devises a plan to use their new gunpowder blow up a portion of the reef surrounding the island to allow them the sail the ship out. His friends are split on the idea with Mark being the sole opposing voice. Young Aaron Quinn is unhappy at the prospect of losing his new friends. As the time for departure nears, both Aaron and Mark disappear. Aaron has lured Mark deep into the jungle in search of a supposed gold mine in an effort to keep the kids from leaving the island. Mark uncovers the ploy and rushes back to the ship to apologise and the kids set out to make their escape. Using the horses to pull the ship into open water and the kids manoeuvre the ship towards the reef. Helen Aaron and Jeremiah watch anxiously from shore as Tony places the explosives on the reef. The explosion doesn't destroy the reef as hoped as Tony discovers the reef is solid rock and not coral. To make matters worse, the noise of the explosion has woken the entire Q village. As the Prime Minister and his men converge on the lagoon, the kids are able to escape detection under the cover provided by Tony's smoke bomb.

Jeremiah and the Widow

Concerned for her brother after he runs afoul of the school headmaster once again, Helen takes her concerns to the kids and together they decide to try to get Mr. Quilter to give up teaching in favor of becoming a gentleman farmer at the side of the wealthy widow Martha Quack. The kids just need to teach Mr Quilter everything there is to know about farming... Recruiting Jeremiah to their cause, the kids pass on their knowledge to Jeremiah who shows Mr Quilter how to build a windmill to pump water. Too shy to talk to Martha Quack himself, Jeremiah shows him the way to proceed but Martha believes it is Jeremiah who is courting her and invites him on a picnic. With the kids hiding on one side of the clearing, offering up information for Jeremiah to impress Martha, it is not long before Mr Quilter bursts from the opposite side accusing Jeremiah of dishonour his trust, demanding a duel to settle his grievance. Seeing an opportunity to rid himself of Jeremiah, the Prime Minister refuses to intervene to stop the duel. Despite the reluctance of the participants, the duel commences. Martha Quack steps in and appeals to the Prime Minister to spare the agricultural genius Jeremiah but he passes on the credit to Mr Quilter. Asking for proof of Mr Quilter's work, the kids build a windmill that Mr Quilter passes off as his own.

The Thieves of Tambu

While the Q is out of his cave, Thomas Quick sneaks in and steals a Latin medical text and some potions, bringing them to the kids at the tree house, seeking their help to save a girl in the village from a grave illness. With help from Helen, Su Ying and Anna travel to the village to help the girl, Mary Quire, slipping into her house to attend to her. Meanwhile, having discovered the theft, the Q orders the Prime Minister search every house in the village for the person responsible. When the girl's father, Emmett Quire, discovers the girls in his house, they are able to convince him they are friends, as is Tom Quick who risked his life to help Sally. When the guards arrive to search the house, Emmett refuses to allow them in, putting his trust in Tom and the girls. Unsuccessful in the search of the village, the Prime Minister issues a proclamation: if the thief does not come forward, six villagers will be sent to Malo. With Sally recovering after having been given medicine for malaria, the kids return the stolen items and deliver a message to the Prime Minister, confessing to the theft to keep the villagers safe.

The Deadly Bargain

While his friends frolic in the lagoon, Quell and Quig capture Mark and take him to the Prime Minister who brings the boy before the Q. Intrigued by the scientific books taken from the United World, the Q has a proposal for Mark. Meanwhile, having seen Mark brought back through town, Helen travels to the tree house to inform her friends of Mark's capture. They are just about to set out after Mark when he returns with a message from the Q Ñ if the kids help him with a "special project", he will make them his "special advisors" granting them their freedom on the island. Mark is eager to help but the others are more cautious, suspecting a trap. Tony and David finally decide it is best they spring whatever trap is being set for them and meet with the Q who tells them what he wants an atomic weapon to protect the island from outsiders. Unable to build such a device, Tony offers to build the next best thing, an Ultra Sonic Laser Ray. Tony creates an impressive looking, but non-functioning, weapon to demonstrate to the Q. With help from the others, and some makeshift explosives, the boys put on an impressive display only to be taken into custody by the Q. David is able to keep the guards at bay with the Laser and they are all able to escape.

While out for his morning surf at an isolated beach near the valley, Tony encounters a mysterious girl from the village. Relishing his time alone away from the others, Tony doesn't tell his friends about the girl, Bess, when he returns to the tree house. Worried that Tony's trips to the beach may endanger their safety should be be spotted, Mark and Su Ying follow him the next morning and see him with the new girl. Despite Su Ying's reservations, Mark decides they should learn more about the girl, so Anna and Su Ying are sent to speak with Elizabeth and Helen Quinn who inform them that Bess is the legal guardian of the Q. Captivated by the description of Tony's surfboard, Aaron ventures to the beach to watch him and returns to the village to tell his friend all about it. The tale quickly spreads to Quell and Quig who are eager to capture the kids with the Prime Minister away at Malo. Their hopes are dashed however by the discovery that Tony is with Bess and they could upset the Q by capturing him. Tony's friends tells him what they've learned about Bess but their good intentions are not received well and he storms off. Meanwhile in the village, Helen warns Bess about the guards' intentions to capture Tony but the warning comes too late Ñ the next morning Bess is captured and Quell and Quig take a boat out into the sea to catch Tony. Tony's friends are able to warn him in time and he surfs into shore escaping the guards whose boat overturns in the waves. Once safe, Tony meets with Bess who tells him it is too dangerous for them to meet again.

The Sea Dragon

The arrival of a small boat brings a man to the island. The kids race the Prime Minister's men to meet the man and are able to get him to safety. The man, a German school teacher sailing the Pacific, tells the kids his story and promises to arrange a rescue for them once he retrieves his boat and gets off the island. Unfortunately, the Q's men have already stripped his boat of its compass and sails. The kids offer him their sail, a compass and supplies to help him on his way but Mark's suggestion that one of them accompany him is rejected outright as too dangerous. While waiting for preparations to be made, Christian decides he'd like to visit the village after meeting Helen and Jeremiah. After observing from afar, Christian boldly strides up to the Prime Minister and introduce himself. The Prime Minister does his best to convince Christian of his good will before reporting to the Q. Anna is sent into the village to talk to Christian who assures her he believes the Prime Minister is not evil and that he and the kids are in no danger. Jeremiah simply explains that his imprisonment alone speaks to the Prime Minister's motives. The kids rescue Jeremiah from the jail and they return to the tree house. The next morning, Christian is no where to be found having departed in the middle of the night.

Return to Malo

Disappointment at being abandoned by Christian, the kids are surprised to see him reappear at their camp. Having moved his boat to a safe location and scouted out the island, Christian is determined to visit the prison island Malo. Tony, David and Anna accompany Christian to Malo and show him the lagoon where the divers obtain the blue weed which gives the Q his long life. Tony takes it upon himself to obtain a sample for Christian. When he returns, David and Christian join him to see a large stockpile of the weed while Anna stays behind. Curious about the blue weed, Anna tastes it... the others return to finds her unconscious. Christian brings Anna into the village and implores the Prime Minister for medical aide. The Prime Minister assures him the effect of the blue weed will last no more that a few hours and that Anna will be fine, thanking Christian for delivering one the the "brats" he has long pursued. Christian demands to speak to the Q, declaring the Prime Minister to be an ignorant and uncivilised man for having so little regard for the children. To counter the accusations, the Prime Minister challenges Christian to a game of chess, the stakes being the lives or the freedom of Anna and Christian. Mark, Su Ying and Jeremiah wait at the beach as Christian bests the overconfident Prime Minister. Despite being challenged in front of the assembled onlookers to live up to the deal, the Prime Minister refuses. Christian plays his remaining card: explaining that news will arrives shortly from Malo about a large theft of blue weed, giving his word that it will be released once he and Anna are free. Christian departs the island for good, promising to send help.

Ye Confounded Wheels

Aaron is enthralled by Tony's skateboard and takes it home. He secretly goes out late at night to ride it and narrowly escaping the attention of the guards. Helen brings him home where Tony and a scolding from his brother Jason are waiting. Tony offers to make Aaron a skateboard of his own out of wood and bamboo, materials bound to draw less attention. Before long all of the town's young ones, and those young at heart, are skateboard crazy. The Prime Minister takes an interest is Aaron and his new contraption, questioning his mother about any encounters her son may have had with "strangers" on the island. The village is soon overrun by kids on skateboards, but when Quell breaks his arm, and the Prime Minister himself is injured, Aaron is thrown behind bars and a ban on skateboards is issued. At the suggestion of Tony and the others, the village children present the Prime Minister with a petition to repeal the ban. Facing overwhelming support for the children, the Prime Minister must relent, and lifts the ban.

Tremors from the islands volcano have the kids concerned but Helen arrives from the village to reassure them. She says the volcano has been acting up roughly once every twelfth month since the Prime Minister came to power, nine years ago. Each time it is calmed by the Prime Minister following an offering of the villagers valued possessions. This year, the Prime Minister has his eye on a bigger sacrifice Ñ one of the five children! Sceptical about the Prime Minister's sacrifices, Tony and the others question Jeremiah who reveals the Prime Minister has kept the offerings to the volcano a secret from the Q. Tony suspects The Prime Minister has been keeping the offerings and is determined to learn why. Following the Prime Minister and his men to the volcano, the kids witness the sacrifice of the villagers best belongings and watch as the Prime Minister hides the goods in a secret cave. As the eruption intensifies, the Prime Minister seeks refuge in the cave. David, Tony and Mark risk their lives to get the Prime Minister out of the well-stocked cave but they all become trapped when the entrance caves in. Trapped, the crazed Prime Minister reveals his dream to overthrow the Q when he learns the secret of the blue weed, becoming the new ruler of Tambu with more treasure than any man before him. As the boys hope begins to fade, Anna, Su Ying, Jason and Adam Quinn lead them to rescue. Once safe, they all watch as the lava from the volcano engulfs the cave and all of the Prime Minister's riches.

When a horse swims ashore on Malo, Aaron, who is celebrating his 10th birthday, wants the horse for himself. The Prime Minister also wants the horse, so Jeremiah brings the matter to the Q who decides to hold a race between this horse, which Aaron has named Quip, and the Prime Ministers horse, Quaga. When the Prime Minister's horse is bested, he is sure it is one of the five children who is riding it and he orders the rider to be arrested. When the identity of the rider is revealed, it is none other that Aaron's sister, Helen.

While giving the United World a thorough cleaning, the kids discover an old parachute. And when Jeremiah reports to kids having overheard the Prime Minister stating his desire to fly, David hatches an idea. With help from the others, he constructs a hang glider. Jeremiah and Helen look on in amazement as David tests the contraption on the beach. Confident of his invention, David readies to take the big leap from atop the cliffs, sure his demonstration would impress the Q people to such a degree they'd finally be free. David takes to the air as his concerned friends look on... The kids send the Prime Minister a note, promising to show him that they can fly. Intrigued, the Prime Minister attends the demonstration. Having secretly brought his guards, the Prime Minister takes the boys into custody when David lands, and they are thrown into the same prison cell they found themselves in when they first arrived on the island. Eager to demonstrate his own flying ability in an attempt to seize power from the Q, the Prime Minister attempts to duplicate David's flight from the cliff top. After a brief and exhilarating flight, the glider breaks and he crashes into the ocean below. With everyone's attention on the Prime Minister, Mark rescue's Tony and David.

Anna and Su Ying enjoy the simply joy of listing to a music box found on the ship. The kids are surprised to find the old hermit on their ship, he too being drawn to the music box, taking it with him when he flees into the jungle. Finding the hermit wandering through the village in the middle of the night with the otherworldly music box, the Prime Minister locks him up, confident the hermit can lead him to the children. When Helen reports to her friends that the hermit has been captured, the kids realise they are no longer safe and must find a new hiding place. The next morning, the Prime Minister releases the hermit and follows him, hoping he will lead him to the children. As the hermit approaches the swamp protecting the kids' camp, David uses the music box, stolen back from the Prime Minister by Jeremiah, to lure the hermit and the trailing Prime Minister away from the kids' hideout.

The Wizard of Tambu

When David falls ill, Helen and the others take him to see Quadricorn, the island's apothecary who lives outside the village. He quickly deduces that his illness results from eating poisonous berries and David makes a quick recovery. Quadricorn tells the kids how he was once a well respected man in the village but was forced to leave after Rufus Quad became the Prime Minister and set the people against him. Wanting to help their new friend regain his confidence and the respect of the villagers, the kids arrange a "phenomenal and truly excellent display of magic" using items from their ship. The Prime Minister mocks the old wizard upon his return to the village but the prospect of the fugitive children helping Quadricorn raises a concern. The Prime Minister and his men keep a close watch on the show but Quadricorn's performance, not entirely aided by the children, is a rousing success.

The Slave Horse

With the Q gone to Malo for ten days, the Prime Minister seizes the opportunity to finally capture the five children, and take ownership of Aaron's horse, Quip, which the Q denied him. Helen brings the horse to the kids camp in the Forbidden Swamp for safekeeping after hearing the Prime Minister's desire to put it to work in the granary turning the millstone. Quip manages to escape and returns to the Quinn's house where he is captured by the Prime Minister's men and is quickly put to work. Jason and Su Ying sneak into the granary in an attempt to free Quip but it is only the early return of the Q that keeps Quip with Aaron.
