A Look Into The 23rd Century

The movie Logan's Run depicts a supposedly Utopian society in the 23rd century, but one where, as producer Saul David puts it, "there is a worm in the apple". The filmmakers use current technology and ideals of pleasure to depict this perfect future. Director Michael Anderson finds meshing these two worlds an exciting challenge, especially in trying to create something that has never been seen before in the movies. The studio's technology department plays a key role in creating Anderson and David's vision. The movie's stars, Michael York and Jenny Agutter, provide their take on the movie, their roles and working with each other and with fellow co-star Richard Jordan. The filmmakers also need to create the antithesis of the modern Utopian world for the scenes taking place outside of the domed world.

Julian West, towards the end of the 19th century, falls into a deep, hypnosis-induced sleep and wakes up 113 years later. The book tells the story of Julian West, a young American who, towards the end of the 19th century, falls into a deep, hypnosis-induced sleep and wakes up one hundred and thirteen years later. He finds himself in the same location (Boston, Massachusetts), but in a totally changed world: It is the year 2000 and, while he was sleeping, the United States has been transformed into a socialist utopia. The remainder of the book outlines Bellamy's thoughts about improving the future. The major themes include problems associated with capitalism, a proposed socialist solution of a nationalisation of all industry, the use of an "industrial army" to organize production and distribution, as well as how to ensure free cultural production under such conditions. The young man readily finds a guide, Doctor Leete, who shows him around and explains all the advances of this new age; including drastically reduced working hours for people performing menial jobs and almost instantaneous, Internet-like delivery of goods. Everyone retires with full benefits at age 45, and may eat in any of the public kitchens. The productive capacity of America is nationally owned, and the goods of society are equally distributed to its citizens. A considerable portion of the book is dialogue between Leete and West wherein West expresses his confusion about how the future society works and Leete explains the answers using various methods, such as metaphors or direct comparisons with 19th-century society.

After learning about the invention that got Bugs rich, Daffy produces an improvement on it that ends up defective, sending him and Bugs into a financial crisis. While at the mall, Daffy ends up trying to get an ice cream store lady to use the tips to pay for the sundae which doesn't go well. Daffy later learns that Bugs earns his money from an invention he made called the Carrot Peeler. After learning this fact, Daffy decides that a good invention is the perfect get-rich scheme. He gets to work in the garage "inventing" items that have been around for ages. Since inventing is such hard work, Daffy goes for the quick and the dirty, stealing an idea from Bugs' notebook called the Automatic Carrot Peeler. Daffy ends up succeeding causing a reversal of luck on Bugs who ends up moving back to his rabbit hole in the forest. Daffy rakes in plenty of money at first, but when public complaints about the Automatic Carrot Peeler being flammable (since Daffy never fully completed the instructions to the Automatic Carrot Peeler, forgetting to add in the cooling system to prevent this) rise and threaten both their lives with the city planning to repossess their home, Bugs get them both out of a huge mess by using a time machine to go back in time to pay for Daffy's sundae and not mentioning about him inventing the Carrot Peeler; however this is a paradox since there's still Bugs' past self around. Some time later, Daffy Duck goes back in time to show some cavemen the toilet paper which he throws to them. The toilet paper lands on the head of one of the cavemen causing them to attack Daffy.

Luc and Theo use the loop to avoid getting hit during a game of dodgeball. Luc and Theo are constantly being destroyed in their game of dodgeball, with every Monday loop. It's all because their main opponent, Jesse, is the greatest dodgeball player in the school and totally has it in for them. Eventually, they get sick of it and decide to do something about it. Theo takes advantage of the loop by calculating all of Jesse's moves until he knows everything he's going to do and when he's going to do it. He and Luc now know how when to jump, duck, etc. and they do just that. In turn, this gets Jesse to knock out Kyle, desecrating his perfectly gorgeous face. Since Kyle was far more popular than Luc and Theo, Jesse gets a ton of backlash from this, including a few words from Sarah, projecting them through Kelly and Kelli, which demands that he goes into his own fart box and suffer his own famous punishment. Jesse's social life is then ruined and he spends the rest of the day crying. Luc and Theo think their troubles are over, but they soon get a visit from a new student, who is depicted as a medieval version of Jesse, names Sir Jesse of Worstershireinghampton's Worstershire (or simply just referred to as Knight Jesse). He challenges them to a duel, which they fatefully lose, ending with them being wedgied on the football goal. The next day, they prepare for Knight Jesse's arrival, only to find that in turn of recent events, another new student comes, who is a greaser version of Jesse. He gives them a whooping, and every Tomorrow Monday, it someone new. There's Caveman Jesse, Pirate Jesse, Robot Jesse, and eventually, a Cosmic Overlord Jesse, who gives them the worst beating of them all. Theo tries to convince Luc that it's better for them to be beamed at dodgeball, but Luc doesn't want to give up the joy of seeing Jesse getting his comeuppance, Sarah being pissed, and Kyle losing his undeserved glory. Overlord Jesse then lifts their bodies into the air and forces them to fight. Theo makes the mistake of saying that he's a lover and not a fighter. Overlord Jesse then manipulates them both, and makes them kiss each other in front of the entire school, subjecting them to further humiliation. Luc finally gives in and plans on losing dodgeball as usual. They go back to getting creamed on the dodgeball court and everything goes back to the way it was.

Luc and Theo are in science class, and Luc is distracted by a fly outside the window. Just then, the teacher teaches them that the lifespan of a fly is one day, meaning that the loop day is the only day that fly outside the window will be alive. Luc is bored of this and suggests to Theo that they ditch school and rewatch Insector 2, for the 489th time. Just then, Coach Lessard, crashes through the door, asking the students if they'd like to try out for badminton, distracting the teacher and students long enough for them to escape through the window. As they do, Theo is freaked out by the fly and accidentally swallows it. He thinks little of it and they watch the movie. The next Monday, Luc finds out that Theo has developed fly-like abilities. Luc gets the fly out of his body, but Theo still has the fly powers. Theo expects that with the next coming loop, his DNA will go back to normal, but for now, he and Luc enjoy his powers. After gym, Theo notices he's changing more, as his legs become fly legs too. The fly from before also starts to develop human-like abilities, unbeknownsy to Luc and Theo. Luc spills his lunch on Jesse, earning him a fart-boxing before assembly. Later, Luc loses Theo and doesn't find him, until he has gone through some major changes. They also run into the fly, who is now human enough to communicate with them and plans on killing Theo with a flyswatter. The fly chases Theo through the school, but just as he's about to swat him, Jesse grabs him, mistaking him for the real theo. Luc takes advantage of this by tossing Theo into the fly's mouth, just before the fart-boxing, sending Theo and the fly back to normal again. The next Monday, Theo thanks Luc for what he did, only to find out that during that same loop, Theo combined himself with a badger.

Theo programs a robot with knowledge of every event that happens on Monday, 12th. It's intention is to predict the butterfly affect of every action they make, in order to keep them safe. Luc notices that she looks very similar to Gwyn Sanders, who overhears him saying her name, all the way from the school. She instaqntly zips over there and stalks her crush, Luc, and shows disgst toward Theo, and also forgets his name. Theo starts the robot and Luc puts it up to an extreme challenge, asking her how he can drive a flame throwing monster truck through the school cafateria, while cooking and eating a bunch of pizzas, then driving up the flagpole andm over a schoolbus pyramid, while not spilling a drop of an extremely full glass of milk. She calculates the outcome and Luc pulls off the entire stunt with grace. Luc immediately loves the robot and names her Dragonface Pukebutt, much to the dismay of Theo. Luc and Theo use Dragonface Pukebutt for a series of ridiculous activities, but for some reason, Theo manages to take a beating from everything, while only Luc is safe. The final straw is when they attempt to avoid a fart-boxing from Jesse, which ends with only Theo getting fart-boxed. They soon find out it's because Dragonface Pukebutt's personality is too similar to that of Gwyn's, making her hate Theo and love Luc. Luc says he'll put the needs of his friend before Dragonface, only for her to overhear him, sending her into a destructive rage-mode. Luc and Theo attempt to excape her wrath, but since she has knowledge of everything they do, she can predict their every move. Luc gets the idea to do something completey unexpected and out of character, so that she wouldn't see it coming. Luc gives himselfg up to Dragonface Pukebutt and kisses her on the lips, overloading her with romantic joy, and making her explode. The next loop, Theo doesn't have the heart to leave Pukebutt's fate the way it ended yesterday and rebuilds her, this time with a romantic mate, a robot that strongly resembles Luc, named Tiny Fishbrain.

Luc and Theo watch Insector 2 and talk during the movie, getting them kicked out. They then decide they can't wait any longer for a sequel and wish the third one would come to theaters sometime soon. Later, Lester says he has the script for the third movie, which was leaken online. Luc and Theo use the script to make the movie, themselves. When Luc and Theo get to casting, Luc becomes the human lead actor, while Theo becomes the monster, because of his cheek bones. They use the loop predictions to know where to make scenes for their movie. Like using the lightning strike to blow up a jalopy and using Claire's car crash as an effect of monster destruction. After they finish, they switch out Principal Applecrab's notes and make him read the promo script, while they play their preview on the white screen behind him. The students love the idea for their movie and are excited to see it. Theo makes the movie go into theaters, by booting Insector 2 out of the lineup and replacing it with Insector 3. After the first screening, the crowd goes wild over it. Luc and Theo stand outside to greet their fans, but Theo seems to outshine the fans among the fans. The fans form a staompede and chase Theo down the streets and Luc pulls him safely into the alley way. Luc is jealous of Theo's superiority in acclaim and wants the movie to be remade because he thinks he would be better as the monster, not telling him the real reason. The next Monday, they remake the movie starring Luc as Insector and Theo as the hero. They go through the same process and air the movie in theaters, but Theo still has the glory. The next Monday they remake the movie again, this time with Luc as both Insector and the main character, but when they greet the fans, people praise Theo for his outstanding performance as Citizen #3. Luc keeps getting the movie remade, but no matter how much he mixes up the casting, the reaction stays the same. Luc gives in and says they should ignore the movie and forget about it entirely. Theo agrees. The next Monday, Luc finds Theo riding through Port Doover in a limousine, absorbing the fame that hasn't yet even come to be. Theo broke his promise, because he loves being famous too much, making Luc super angry. At the movie theater, Theo is about to screen Insector 3 once again. Luc breaks in and gets into a fight with him. The two of them argue and it gets physical, knocking the film out of the projector, landing it in Kyle's popcorn bag. As the roll through the aisles, beating each other up. The audience starts cheering at the screen. Confused, Luc and Theo look up at the screen and find a shadow puppet of Kyle's hand, giving a thumbs up on the projector. The fans adore Kyle Bush even more than they did Luc and Theo, for doing absolutely nothing. They then realize how fandom is completely nonsensical, and that they shouldn't be fighting over something so stupid. They become friends again and never affiliate with Insector again.
