Novel  -  min
A cynical and incredulous student of North High School is dragged along by his classmate, the eponymous female protagonist Haruhi Suzumiya, an eccentric girl seeking supernatural phenomena and figures such as aliens, time travelers, and espers. Written by Nagaru Tanigawa.
Two characters, Mikuru Asahina and Fujiwara, are time travelers from the future and many parts of the storyline involve time traveling. The story follows the narrator and male protagonist Kyon, a cynical and incredulous student of North High School. He is dragged along by his classmate, the eponymous female protagonist Haruhi Suzumiya, an eccentric girl seeking supernatural phenomena and figures such as aliens, time travelers, and espers. With Kyon's reluctant help, Haruhi establishes a club called the "SOS Brigade" (SOS Esu- -Esu Dan?), short for "Spreading Excitement all Over the World with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade" ( Sekai o ini Moriageru Tame no Suzumiya Haruhi no Dan?), to investigate mysterious events. Haruhi later recruits three additional members: the laconic bibliophile Yuki Nagato, the shy and timid Mikuru Asahina, and the extremely friendly transfer student Itsuki Koizumi. These members soon reveal themselves (to Kyon) to be the types of extraordinary characters that Haruhi is seeking. The three additional members have been sent by their various organizations to observe Haruhi who is unaware that she possesses destructive reality warping powers and to prevent these powers from being unleashed. This leaves Kyon the task of maintaining the illusion of a normal life for Haruhi.

George (Wally Wingert) and the Jetsons travel back in time from 2002, to sue us all for screwing up the planet.
The Jetsons travel "back" in time from the incredible, far off year of (ahem) 2002, to sue us all for screwing up the planet. Turns out there's a reason all the buildings in the Jetsons' world are on stilts: the ice caps melted and the earth is covered in water. Meanwhile, Phil is terrified - or is it excited - that the Jetsons are there to abduct and anally probe him.

Harvey is invited by Potamus to relax in his new hot tub, wearing a pink shower terry that Potamus has told him to put on. Potamus instructs Harvey to "hit the jets" on the tub and when Harvey does so he is enveloped in a blue light and sucked into the swirling waters of the tub. Potamus follows Harvey, trying to retrieve his hoagie. Harvey and Potamus rematerialize in what appears to be the Stone Age. Harvey attempts to call Peanut (who seems to be hosting a Lamaze class in Potamus' office) but can't get a clear enough signal on his mobile phone. Harvey is caught by a group of neanderthal cave men who believe he's the "pink manbird" (because he's still wearing the shower terry) their oracle had foretold would bring them pestilence and drought. When Potamus appears they mistake him for their pink hippo helmet-wearing God, which Potamus gladly embraces. Phil manages to find out about the portal in the hot tub and brings Peanut, Avenger, and a Star Trek character parody to the past. Phil takes advantage of the limitless resources and lack of economy to start up several business ventures including theme parks and dinosaur hunting. Meanwhile, Harvey serves council to a cave woman who wants to leave her husband for another (exact duplicate-looking) cave man, while Potamus serves as judge. Harvey convinces Potamus not to sacrifice the woman (as the other cave men demand) but to give her and her husband marriage counseling Ð Phil tries to volunteer for it but Harvey decides to do it himself. Phil eventually angers the cave men and Potamus is discovered to be a sham so they all rush back to the watery portal but realize a little too late that the neanderthals and their dinosaurs followed them to the present. They all laugh and the Star Trek parody gets eaten by a T-Rex.

Hausdorff Paradox

Hausdorff Paradox

S  -  Ep  -  1914//

There exists a countable subset C of the sphere S such that S divided by C is equidecomposable with two copies of itself. Authored by Felix Hausdorff.
In mathematics, the Hausdorff paradox, named after Felix Hausdorff, states that if you remove a certain countable subset of the sphere S2, the remainder can be divided into three disjoint subsets A, B and C such that A, B, C and B -C are all congruent. In particular, it follows that on S2 there is no finitely additive measure defined on all subsets such that the measure of congruent sets is equal (because this would imply that the measure of A is both 1/3 and 1/2 of the non-zero measure of the whole sphere). The paradox was published in Mathematische Annalen in 1914 and also in Hausdorff's book, Grundz_ge der Mengenlehre, the same year. The proof of the much more famous Banach-Tarski paradox uses Hausdorff's ideas. This paradox shows that there is no finitely additive measure on a sphere defined on all subsets which is equal on congruent pieces. (Hausdorff first showed in the same paper the easier result that there is no countably additive measure defined on all subsets.) The structure of the group of rotations on the sphere plays a crucial role here - the statement is not true on the plane or the line. In fact, as was later shown by Banach,[1] it is possible to define an "area" for all bounded subsets in the Euclidean plane (as well as "length" on the real line) such that congruent sets will have equal "area". (This Banach measure, however, is only finitely additive, so it is not a measure in the full sense, but it equals the Lebesgue measure on sets for which the latter exists.) This implies that if two open subsets of the plane (or the real line) are equi-decomposable then they have equal area.

The Station in the title is a prison colony created in the pre-Cambrian era by means of a time machine invented by an eponymous Dr. Hawksbill. A time machine is used by an oppressive government for deporting political prisoners a billion years in the past, to the Pre-Cambrian era. Hawksbill Station is a penal colony in the Precambrian era created by the authoritarian United States government, using time travel as a means to exile rebels and political dissidents into the past. The colony houses only male exiles (a female settlement supposedly exists later in the Silurian Period), who are sent there as a "humane" alternative to execution. The machine only works one way, so the prisoners are hopelessly marooned in the past.
